Factory Special Order | L-48/TH350/12Bolt | Highly Documented
This 1969 Chevelle Malibu SPT Coupe spent the first 40 years with the original owners until we found it in September of 2010 in Mulino, Oregon.
It was a complete, original owner car that had been sitting in storage for approximately 18 years. The car came with extensive original documentation including the protects plate, bill of sale from Verger Chevrolet in Coos Bay Oregon, the original body broadcast copy, the original owners manual and the original Car Shipper documenting it as a factory special order car, painted a Cadillac Iridescent color called San Mateo Red. The car was optioned with the highest horsepower small block available in a Chevelle in 1969 the 4 bolt main L-48 300 hp/350. It retained it's matching numbers engine, TH350 transmission and 12 bolt rear end.
A factory optioned dual exhaust car, it didn't take long until the small block rumbled back to life after it's long hibernation. Fresh gas, a through tune up and the car was back to daily driver duty from September 2010 until mid 2013.
As I began to do research on the car and discover how unique it was I planned a full restoration.
In 1969 Chevelle's could be ordered in any model with the "SS" option. This seams to be one of the reasons that when performing full restorations on 1969 Chevelles most people choose to build the cars as Super Sports.
The way this Malibu was optioned you could have had a 325hp/396 SS car for the same money.
The car has just gone through a thorough, documented, ground up restoration and will be for sale soon.
Truly a 1 of 1 car. You will not find another 1969 San Mateo Red L48 Malibu with this pedigree if at all!
Have a look at some of the pics from the restoration process (there are over 1600 this is a small sample). It's been a blast bringing this super rare Malibu back to better than new condition. It's ready for street and strip duty and another 50 plus years of fast and reliable transportation.
